Some decent weights were recorded again this week by our junior members at the popular Aspull water. The quality of fish at Woodshaw Reservoir seems to be improving year on year, and quality roach and skimmers are regularly featuring in catches.
Josh Hughes took top honours in the junior section, catching 3 tench and 2 crucian carp on sweetcorn fished in the margins for an impressive 13lb 2oz. Closest rival was Liam Gaskell who fished maggot to amass 5-10 of roach and hybrids, plus a bonus crucian.
Liam's elder brother Sean won the Intermediate catagory with 11lbs of mostly quality roach taken on maggot. Sean also included a 2lb hybrid in his catch.

Minnows 7th June
Despite a downpour just before the match started, the Minnows spirits were not dampened.
Most of the anglers managed to catch some fish.
Pegged on 571, Lloyd Berry concentrated on catching perch close to the edge on pinkies. Some of his fish put up a great fight for their size.
Sat on the end-peg, Callum Brown had chose to fish breadpunch to lure the roach from under the far bank trees. As I passed by, Callum confidently announced that he was going to put on a big piece of bread and catch something bigger, and sure enough, within 2 minutes the float slid under and he was soon putting his landing net into action.
Opposite the school field, Daniel Burton from Runcorn also fished breadpunch on the long pole. Daniel put together a match-winning net 1lb 12ozs 10drs of silver fish (roach and skimmers).

Match Result:
1st - Daniel Burton 1-12-10
2nd - Jack Whiteman 1-2-0
3rd - Courtney Wright 0-15-11
4th - Lloyd Berry 0-15-3
5th - Callum Brown 0-9-5

Minnows 1st Match - 25th May
23 eager young anglers fished the first Minnows match of the season on Monday night. The youngters met on the bank of the Bridgewater Canal at Grappenhall, exchanging tales of their recent fishing adventures.

Soon the competition was underway and most of the anglers were quickly catching roach, perch and gudgeon. Jack Whiteman had a good start with a couple of small skimmer bream.
Opposite the scout hut, Joseph Copsey hooked onto something that gave his elastic a good stretch, but then realised that he didnt have his landing net set up. With a bit of help from coach Martin Griffiths, the decent roach was soon landed.

After the weigh-in, all of the competitors gathered round as the results were read out. There were only 2 dry nets out of the 23 who fished, and everyone who caught fish recieved a prize.
Results:
1st - Morgan Adawee (1lb 2oz)
2nd - Shaun Wright (1lb 1oz 5dr)
3rd - Eleanor Jones (1lb)
4th - Jack Whiteman (14oz)
Helen Dagnall, match organiser and Warrington Juniors' Head Coach explained the rules and then after drawing for their pegs, the minnows headed along the canal bank, followed by parents, helpers and coaches and volunteers from Warrington Anglers Association.

After 90 minutes fishing, Helen called the "All-Out!" to signal the end of the match. "Fish On!" was the cry from Morgan Adawee, who had hooked a perch in the dying seconds. The fish proved to be a matchwinner, as Morgan won the match with just over half an ounce to spare from nearest rival, Shaun Wright.
